Supportive, compassionate care for life’s emotional challenges

About Our Registered Counsellor

Life can be overwhelming—whether you’re navigating trauma, anxiety, parenting stress, or simply feeling stuck. Our Registered Counsellor provides a safe, non-judgemental space to explore your thoughts and feelings. Using evidence-based techniques like art, mindfulness, and storytelling, we help individuals and families reconnect with their inner resilience. Counselling is short-term and focused on building emotional tools, self-awareness, and healthy coping strategies for daily life.

Meet Nicole van Niekerk

Designation: Registered Counsellor

Bio: I am a Registered Counsellor with a deep rooted passion for working with adolescents and young adults, helping them to cope with life’s challenges in a mindful, reflective manner. My internship focused on working with complex trauma in children and adolescents from disadvantaged communities and I gained valuable knowledge in guiding and validating complicated feelings. Taking a holistic approach, I aim to guide my clients towards a well-rounded, balanced life style that is attainable for them.

As an HPCSA Registered Counsellor, I work with children from around Grade 5 upwards and have a special interest in the following areas:

  • Study guidance (especially in cases of test and exam anxiety)
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Trauma
  • Bullying
  • Coping strategies and life skills
  • Adjustment within the family or at school
  • Group counselling

I integrate art and other creative mediums into my counselling and focus on empowering children and young people by sharing mental health knowledge with them in an age-appropriate way.

I am also currently part of a task team implementing a “Mental Health First Aid” program in schools. This program aims to empower learners and create a safe space where they can understand and manage their emotions — including the normal challenges of being a teenager.

In addition, I offer a study guidance program from Grade 6 onwards. The program focuses on practical, mindful skills that children can apply throughout their lives in their studies. My focus is specifically on children who experience learning challenges, are neurodiverse, or struggle with test and exam anxiety.

Areas of Focus:

  • Trauma recovery and resilience building
  • Anxiety, burnout and stress management
  • Emotional wellbeing support for children, adolescents, and adults

Some of what we can help with:

  • Trauma and stress support
  • Grief and life transitions
  • Emotional regulation for children and teens
  • Self-esteem and identity support
  • Parent guidance and family dynamics
  • Mindfulness, play, and art-based therapy
  • Psychoeducation and coping strategies
